Using the global search dashboard functionality, Squirro provides a uniform search experience for users. Once enabled, the search bar is integrated with the dashboard navigation on top of the screen. This way it is always available to end users to start a search.

To enable this functionality, three steps are required:

  1. Create a dashboard which provides the desired search behavior. The Cognitive Search project template already includes such a dashboard.

  2. Promote this dashboard to be the global search dashboard on the project.

  3. In the App & Nav Bar configuration enable the Compact global search option.

The following sections explain these steps in more detail.

Create the Dashboard

A typical global search dashboard will include some or all of the following components:

Promote the Dashboard

Once the dashboard has been created, go to the Dashboards list, and in the dashboard’s menu select promote global search.

...

Only one dashboard can be the global search dashboard in a project. If another dashboard was configured as the global search dashboard it will be demoted.

If you would like to hide the dashboard, which you have promoted as Global Search, from the Dashboard tabs, you can do this by unchecking its Visible property.

Enable Compact Global Search

As a final step navigate to the App & Nav Bar section and enable the Compact global search option.

...

End Result

With this done, the Dashboards space will now show a search bar at the top at all times. This search bar will invoke the global search dashboard independent of which dashboard the user is currently on.

...

The one exception to this is the Community 360 Dashboard which by defaults stays on the dashboard but allows the user to switch to a project-wide search. See the section Interaction with Global Search on that page for more detailsThis page can now be found at Global Search Dashboard on the Squirro Docs site.
